MIBC (Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol

ALCOHOL-BASED FROTHER

MIBC — Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol

A Selective Alcohol-Based Frother Widely Used in Sulfide Ore Flotation

MIBC (Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol) is an organic chemical compound and a liquid alcohol derivative with a characteristic alcohol odor.

MATERIAL PROFILE

Role in the Flotation Circuit

Alcohol-based frothers are considered suitable flotation reagents due to their good selectivity and ability to produce stable froth. Froth flotation is one of the most common methods for processing low-grade sulfide copper ores. Several factors influence it, including the type and dosage of collectors, frothers, pH regulators, activators, and depressants.

MIBC is one of the most important frothers used in flotation circuits. It promotes stable froth, improves bubble stability, and enhances overall flotation efficiency by helping separate valuable minerals from unwanted materials.

ADVANTAGES

Why Use MIBC

01

Produces dry but easily breakable froth, providing good control of froth stability.

02

A preferred frother for the flotation of many sulfide minerals and coal.

03

Suitable for the flotation of fine particles (<10 μm).

04

Effective in both acidic and alkaline environments, typically within a pH range of 4–12, even though most flotation operations are alkaline.

05

Soluble in most organic solvents.
